Disclaimer: I received a complimentary KidKraft Pirate Sandboat to review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One of the downfalls of living in a Townhome with children is that you don’t have a yard, generally they only have a patio or balcony. Luckily we have larger size patios in the Townhome community where we live so I try to find fun outdoor toys and games that my son can play with outside. My son has asked me many times for a Playhouse for the patio but most of the ones I have found seem to be a tad too girly for a little boy in my opinion. However I had fun idea to transform my latest product review for KidKraft’s Pirate Sandboat into a Boy style Clubhouse!
This high quality Pirate Boat is made of solid wood that has bright color paintings on its sides. It is split into sections with the front intended to be a sandbox and the rear of the ship has 2 seats with storage below them and a back bench style seat as well. In addition it has a shade providing canopy and Pirate Ship style mast complete with a Pirate flag and ship’s steering wheel.
My husband constructed the Sandboat with everything it included except the mesh flooring intended to keep the sand in the front portion of the ship. The reason that I asked my husband to leave the flooring out of the ship is due to the fact that I intended to create a playhouse instead of a sandbox and the cement flooring of our patio was perfect flooring for the clubhouse as it could be used for coloring with chalk without damaging the ship itself.
Once it was fully constructed I put my son’s art desk in the front portion of the ship and used one of the storage benches for his art supplies and the other storage bench contained my son’s outdoor chalk. My son asked if he could bring his box of Army Men into the Pirate Sandboat (aka Pirate Clubhouse) and of course I said yes! This unique twist of creating a Clubhouse with the Sandboat turned out better than I could have hoped for, my son asks to go outside every day to play in his one-of-a-kind Pirate Playhouse.
